Electric Arc Furnaces:

Electric arc furnaces (EAFs) designed by NKMZ realize the latest high technologies of melting high quality steel of any grade. The basis of the technology and EAF design is formed by the own advanced scientific-technical, technological and design approaches.

Technical level of EAFs is continuously raised with a wide involvement of scientific research and design institutes closely cooperating with us in this field.

The main distinguishing features of EAF are as follows:

  • high quality of steel to be melted;
  • high capacity;
  • high reliability;
  • high efficiency.

The main objectives being attained are as follows:

  • melting a wide grade range of steel;
  • full technological cycle of melting, including the
following:
  • - burden preparation;
  • - preparation of alloying and slag-forming materials;
  • - steel melting in furnace;
  • - heat tapping and weighing in ladle;
  • - process gases recovery;
  • - operation using any grade of burden (scrap, hot briquetted iron, iron-rich pellets, pig and liquid iron).

Ladle Furnace: 

Secondary steelmaking on the (УКП) Ladle furnace facility allows to make steel with the high level of accuracy in terms of its temperature and chemical composition, desulphurize it up to the required parameters, reduce the content of non-metallic inclusions and also permits to use the facility as an accumulating and damping device between the steelmaking vessel, i.e., EAF, converter and openhearth furnace and continuous casting units.

To provide high degree of degassing deoxidation, desulphurization, decarburization and removal of non-metallic inclusion, in combination with the ladle furnace facility the equipment for vacuum degassing in a ladle with argon or oxygen blowing (if required) may be installed through the use of a steam-jet vacuum pump or dry power pumps.

Vacuum Degassing Units:

Vacuum degassing plant provides:

  • ladle steel homogenizing; 
  • precise chemical composition of steel before pouring; 
  • reduction of sulphur content in steel up to less than 50 ppm; 
  • making steel with carbon content less than 0.003%; 
  • reduction of non-metallic inclusions in steels up to less than 0.002%; 
  • reduction of nitrogen content up to less than 40 ppm; 
  • reduction of hydrogen content in steel up to less than 1.5 ppm; 
  • making steel with oxygen content in steel less than 30 ppm.

Vacuum casting may be carried out using one of the three procedures:

  1. vacuum degassing during steel stream casting;
  2. vacuum degassing in the ladle; and
  3. double vacuum degassing.

Mixers:

To hold hot iron, “NKMZ” manufactures immovable mixers up to 2500 tons in capacity while to transport hot iron, up to 600-ton

capacity torpedo cars are made. Torpedo car repair stands are also made at the plant.
